United Way of Sumter, Clarendon and Lee Counties provides funding to over 30 agencies serving
residents of our communities.  Local agencies must complete a thorough application, agree to report
results, provide an annual independent audit and maintain a volunteer board of directors.  In addition,
all agencies receiving United Way funding must meet the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service
and the South Carolina Secretary of State.

A team of community volunteers carefully reviews each application, then makes informed funding
decisions based on specific criteria, including the program’s ability to address issues identified in Facing
Facts, proven impact, and long-term expected outcomes.
