Safe Kids Fest 2008: Safe Kids Fest, sponsored by Tuomey Healthcare System, is an event held in March and is designed to educate
parents, caregivers and children about preventing injuries and staying safe. This year the Fest will brought together over 30 community
partners and 200 volunteers who hosted over 20 fun, interactive exhibits for children and families to enjoy and learn from. Success By 6
informed those attending on the hazards of loud noises/sounds and ways to prevent damage to the ears.
2008 Conference on Early Care and Education: The 6th annual 2008 Conference on Early Care and Education was held in
March. The theme this year was "Solving the Early Learning Puzzle." This conference offered child care providers, teachers, and
advocates for children a high quality, informative, inspiring, and fun venue. Participants this year were highly energetic and receptive!
Thanks for making this year this best yet! Congratulations to our Early Childhood Professional Award winners: Dr. Cynthia Graham
and Mrs. Margaret Branham. These individuals were recognized for the vital role played as an early childhood professional and to
reward their commitment to nurturing and educating young children in a child care setting.
Provider Appreciation: Success By 6 held a special event to thank childcare providers in May 2007 for Provider Appreciation Day.
Guest speaker, Jean White, entertained the group with a wonderful training session on "How Do I Make A Difference! Every provider
also received Thank You gifts. We just can't say it enough, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!"
2008 Week of the Young Child - Diaper Derby and Toddler Trot Event: In celebration of Week of the Young Child, April 13-19,
2008, United Way Success By 6 CCR&R held a diaper derby and toddler trot at the Sumter Mall. The Week of the Young Child (WOYC)
is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association of the Education of Young Children to bring attention to the needs of
young children and the importance of quality early childhood programs. This year's theme for WOYC was: Bring Communities Together
for Children - Children Bring Communities Together. United Way staff, participants, and families thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
