Reach Out and Read combines early literacy with regular pediatric care for children between the ages of 6
months and 5 years. At ROR Sites, children attending well-child visits receive a new, age-appropriate book
from the doctor or nurse practitioner along with early literacy advice. In the waiting room, community
volunteers read stories aloud to children and model reading aloud techniques to parents. Through the
guidance from doctors and nurses, parents learn ways to support their children's early literacy
development.
